I have a stock 2000 FE SOC V6, 137,000 miles. Lately I have been noticing a noticeable click/clunk in the front. I don't feel anything in the steering wheel, It does not happen at high speed or get noticeably better/worse when I turn the wheel. I took a look underneath last night at the tire rod ends and the ball joints, neither look or feel visibly loose I put new U-Joints in about 30,000 miles ago. I'm just hoping it's not the differential.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Rob

I think I self diagnosed my problem, put her up on the jackstand grabbed the left front tire and the whole assembly wobbled away. Guess I'll be buying a new hub assembly tonight!

Well my "clunk" turned out to be a bad hub assembly, a bad shock, upper and lower ball joints. I hope this fixes it.

The lower ball joint was slipping out of the swing arm so my mechanic suggested that I tack weld it into place. Apparently the hole in the swing arm became so worn it would not hold the joint in place. I hope to post some pictures soon.

Check to see that the ball joint is not "frozen" within it's socket. The stud should move about fairly easily. Seems unlikely the mounting hole in the A-arm would be wallowed out otherwise......imp.
