Clunk noise - any suggestions?

I'm new to this site and really impressed with the help everyone posts. So, heres my situation. Just bought a 1999 Ford Ranger 4X4 quad cab. When I hit the gas I hear a clunk. When I come to a stop and hear it again. The guy told me it was the leaf springs. I coudn't believe it. I took it to a muffler shop that also re-arches springs and told him the noise. Before I could finish, he asked me if it was a Ford Ranger. I was blown away! I have been researching it on the internet and have not found any real postings on the subject.
Has anyone run into this situation before? If so, what is the best direction I can take. I love the truck and everything else seems to be in good order.

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread to the Ranger section. Check the U joints, and the slip yoke on the driveshaft.
