I just replaced the ball joints on my 98 explorer xlt. A few days later I replaced the shocks. The ride is great, but now I am getting a clunking noise when I stop or slow down (but usually not if I slow down very gently). I also here something when turning the wheels all the way to right. Noise is always from front driver's side wheel well. I've felt around and nothing seems to be loose down there. If anyone knows what this could be I sure would appreciate the help. Thanks.

If your 2wd, you have no CV axles.

Did you torque the spindle nuts down to 150 lbs? Did you torque the brake caliper bolts (to the knuckle) to 100 lbs or so? If either of these are loose, they would let you know by making a sound, ie..clunk/thud/knock.

Just a guess here, Shocks might be the wrong size.

thanks! I did not do the ball joints but will check these bolts out.
