Today when pulling out to head to work my 1998 explorer w/ 5r55e transmission threw a p1762 error code which my obd2 reader indicated as a shift solenoid malfunction. It then refused to move at all and began making a grinding noise when attempting to shift gears.

I parked it and decided to order a complete set of shift solenoids to try and fix the issues. The pan and filter were clean and no signs of internal failure. The parts won't be here until Monday but was hoping someone had experience with this and might ha e some pointers.

Great talk. Glad I'm not the only one.

Got the new solenoid kit in. Drove fine for about 15 minutes and is now slipping under medium to high acceleration and no reverse. I give up time fora new transmission I guess.

Just not good at diagnosing this stuff.

I bit the bullet and will be taking it in for a new transmission today. Be fixed in a week and hopefully ready for the Moab trip!
