My 2001 Exp. Sport is having some cold starting issues. Ever since it has started to get cold in the Midwest, my truck has developed a rough cold start. I remember last Spring the truck started "chugging" on the first cold start, but once summer hit the problem went away. Usually at first start in the morning the engine will chug a bit and the idle will bounce around. This only happens for the first 5 seconds and then everything is great for the rest of the day. This morning the truck chugged and stalled out. I waited a few seconds and it started right up with no hesitation....
Any help on resolving this issue would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
JB

My guess is that it would be one of your sensors...do you have a manual on it?

Could be two issues if you have the SOHC engine - First is the Intake Manifold O-rings. Rough idle on startup in cold weather is classic symptom of air leaking around them. Second possibility is the Idle Air Control valve (IAC).

Search for OOM12 and 01M01 for more info about the O-rings and other common SOHC engine issues.

Search for How to clean IAC for more info about that part.
