Competition results and a couple Q's

Whats up everyone, been a while since ive been on the boards, my current set up is composed of a MA audio class X 1500 watt amp, and a 15" rockford punch Hx2
I just competed today in the Cool Cruise Sound competition, I hit 136.4 db, i would've liked to do better but thats all I got. I took third place behind a guy runnin a kicker 15" solo, and a guy runnin 2 10" solo's that hit a 147 db!!!
I plan to compete again but want to change my subwoofer, any suggestions? I atleast want 140 db
my class is 2-10" subs or 1-15", unlimited watts.
I was thinkin about a MA audio Synergy 15"
or 2-10" XL's,

which would create more SPL 2-10" or 1-15"????

it's all in the install.....

are you just going purely for spl? or do you want it to sound good too?

if you just want to win competitions, keep you sub but ditch the box (instead of buying mid level equipment now, you can save up and get real hard hitting spl system). build a huge vented enclosure. and have the enclosure tuned to about 60HZ.
make sure you have really good sound deadening materials.


then when you want to move into the higher classes of competition, get some true SPL subs (eg. juggernauts).
but then you will need to put more money into the explorer (extra alternators, batteries, plexi glass all around, etc...)

basically you want to seal up your explorer. SPL is sound pressure level, so you dont want any of this pressure to escape.

**** is that even drivable? I want to be up there but if i cant drive it than there is no point. I will give you my insight it takes alot of money and time. You already have a good start in amp but if your going to be spending all that money dont go cheap on wiring. Go with 0 gauge and good rcas. Go to www.darvex.com that is where i got all my wiring and that guy gives great deals. Make a good box and dont try to do this stealth **** cause it wont work you will need to give up all your cargo and than some....like leen said get a good altenator,battery,and if you havent already Dynamat or use the other stuff water and seal everyone talks about. Than you will be on your way. Go with a monster sub that can handle that 1500 watt amp and go from there.

whoa thanks for the info, I got 25 ft of stinger 0 guage in my basement just waiting to be put in but i gotta get a fuse holder for hi-amps, other than that I was talking to some people at a shop and they suggested that i get a synergy (MA Audio) 15", it handles 1500 rms, and its awesome lookin
There were a lot of guys runnin rectangular ports at the comp, whats the difference between these and round ones? They said its for greater SPL
Leenjen: Those set ups are cool, but not for my daily driver, and also why tune it to 60 hz, I was using bass boost and I think its centered at 40 or so, the vent if tuned for the same as my bass boost would then have an incredible spike there right. Jeez its hard to think runnin on 1 hour of sleep!!!!!
But I am still wondering what would be louder, 2-10" or 1-15" assuming power is equal.

The size of the out put transducer ( speaker ) makes very little differance on the spl. In case some of you don't know SPL is Sound Pressure Level. Sound is nothing more than moving air , so SPL is the force of the moving air. Higher frequency's travel quicker and more efficentaly ( sp? ) a 10' genrally favor higher frequency's
meaning , you aren't going to hear symbols comming out of your sub ( or I should say you shouldn't ) nor should you hear Barry White comming out of your tweets. The amp will run the 10's more efficently than the 15' so the 10's will likely be some waht louder but likely only a few db at best. But that is speculation

basically the huge slot vented ports are used because you can make them whatever size you want and it's easy. try to find pvc pipe larger then 4" diameter. anyway, you can make one huge slot to tune the enclosure to 60HZ or use a few 4" round ports. it doesnt make a difference in SPL. but the port turbulance of a square slot will hurt some sound quality (not like it matters in SPL. but that's why you never see them in sq systems).

the reason why you would tune it so high (60hZ) is because it's an spl competition. they measure the spl from 60Hz down. it's easier to produce more volume at higher frequencies. this equals higher SPL numbers

I would go with the 1 15 for more spl. With that power try a Kicker L7 or a dd9515.

I had a L7 in my explorer with 1200 watts and did a 148.9. I also have a friend who with 1200 watts and 1 dd9515 did a 153.7.

If you want something that will get loud for comps but still have it sound good for daily driving make a box with a removeable port.
