I've just got a couple questions about a set up for my 97 ford explorer ex... 4 door...

basically i was going to do a full system.... I've had good luck with alpine HU... but i'm not sure about the speakers....

This is what i was looking at....

HU either
alpine 9827 or 9831.. which one would you go with... or is there another that I should be condsidering

speakers... there are only 4.. 1 in each door...
sps-57OA... 5x7... I was going to replace all 4... not sure if its worth while replacing the back speakers...

Sub
swx1042D... 10"... in a free standing box... I didn't want a box in the back.... I just says "steal me"... but I'm not sure if there are stealth boxes available... and if there any good or overpriced....

Amp...I think the amp the local guys were pushing was a 4 channel amp... that would be used to drive the front 2 speakers and the sub..... not sure if thats a good idea or not..... what power should i be running...

Do you have any experience with the Ipod interface... any good or a waste of money...

THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR TIME...

you dont need an amp to run your door speakers unless your HU dosnt have an internal amp...
you only need one amp to run your sub.

I would replace all four door speakers, run them off your deck. Alpine makes good stuff but I would go with one of there upper line one. Save the money form the 4 channel amp and get a better deck or speakers. Of course amp your sub.
As far as boxes go there are plans on here for a stealthbox(i think).

i would highly recommend going against what the last two guys said and i would go with an amp for your front speakers.

personally i prefer clarion hu's but either of those alpines would work great for your needs.

if i were building a simple system with 1 10" etc. like you are, i would run a nice set of 6.5" component speakers up front off the front two channels of a 4 channel amp and the sub off the rear two channels bridged (sounds like thats what the local guys said too)

The cheaper Jl components tr650csi, jl 10w3v2, and the 300/4 amp would work just fine.

similar set-ups could be built with many other brands. I might consider using mbquart speakers and sub with that same 300/4 amp as well.

or any of the above set-ups with an mtx amp (in my opinion by far the best mass produced cheap amps out there)

oh yeah, and you'd most likely want to put the sub in the jl stealthbox or a custom built box for that space.

^ I typically agree with whatever this guy says ;) lol

If youre on a budget and you dont want to get into components, get a good set of 4 coaxials 6x8, and a good 50-100x4 amp. Thats what I have had, and I was really impressed with them... then get a dedicated sub amp...
But now that I have some cash I'm goin with some components in front and some diff amps...

your choice though... really depends on the budget I guess...
