2005 explorer sport trac
2005 sport trac 4.0 engine. Since new I've never got more than 17 mpg. I just sent for a performance chip to try to improve anything. Anyone have any results trying this. Jeff

No personal experience on my Trac but others have had zero luck with chips.

Most either use the ScanGauge2 and or the XCal3 but the best way to get better mpg's is to change driving habits and drop weight, use full synthetic fluids in the drivetrain.

I always use synthetic fluids in everything I drive. I'm 63 and drive like I'm 83 so I can't really change my driving habits. I'm just trying to improve mpg's if possible. As far as my truck goes, It's still the best looking truck I ever owned. Jeff

The mileage killer on these trucks is accelerating from stops. The ST is an underpowered brick, with a 4200-4500 curb weight. No amount of money or combined mods will net you a gain of more than 3 MPG city driving. 25 MPG highway is
not uncommon, it's the stop and go driving that kills good mileage. In the city, drive with an egg under the skinny pedal.
