Hey guys, helping out a friend with a 2002 Explorer Sport Trac. He's got codes that show bank 1 and 2 are lean. From searching this site I see it's very common to have intake manifold gasket leaks. We've already cleaned the mass air and checked for any loose vacuum hoses etc. Still gets an idle surge, check engine light etc.
Anyhow I got a Haynes manual for his truck and it shows the gasket between the lower intake and upper plenum to be 6 o-rings. I called Napa and they show 6 o-rings for the lower intake and nothing for the upper plenum? I called Advance Auto and they show a lower gasket which they say is not o-rings and nothing for the upper plenum.
Now I'm confused. What gaskets exactly does the SOHC 4.0 have and is the common failure between the upper and lower or between the lower intake and the heads/block?
Thanks
Malcolm
