Ok so to start it all off. I am running a 15" DD 3515d off of a rockford fosgate 1000a2 amp in my 1996 explorer limited 5.0 V8 AWD.
The original box was 4.5 cubic ft, port was 18" tall, 4" wide, 28" long(L-shaped inside the box). According to some online calculators the box should have been tuned to about 35hz. Both port and sub firing back. We tested it on a termpro meter, meter was 12" from pillar 4" up from dash, truck not running, windows up. The loudest it did was a 141.9 at 45hz. We thought that was real weird seeing how the box is tuned so low.

So we threw in the new box, 3.5 cubic ft, 3 4" aero ports along the bottom and sub firing up. We first put in the 8" tubes(should have been 51hz) it gained 1DB(142.8 DB) but the loudest still at 45hz, threw in some 12" tubes(roughly 44hz), About the same DB, still loudest at 45hz. Threw in some 18" tubes(roughly 37hz), about the same DB and still loudest at 45hz. Lastly we threw in 6" long tubes(roughly 57hz) 142.9 DB and still loudest at 45hz.

Also we tried the sub in different positions, sub to the side, ports back. Sub pointed up and ports to the side, only changed 3/10 of a DB maximum.

Why has the loudest tone been 45hz with every length tube we tried? Shouldn't it have moved a little bit at least? Is this normal for explorers?

Thanks for any input or help in advance :)

Now this was an online calculator i used to estimate the freq for each length. for all i know i could be off a bit on the numbers lol.

every vehicle has a resonant frequency where it will peak at.

So even if its tuned to 36hz its gonna stay loudest at 45hz and not 36hz?

Maybe. Every car is different. It sounds like your resonant frequency is about 45 hz. Tune your enclosure to give the highest peak at that point. If you're wanting to compete, trust the meter over your ears. If you want music, start over.

thats loud is your going to get with that power
