2016 Explorer Platinum
I got my 2016 Explorer Platinum last week (love it!). One thing I have had issues with is finding the proper adapter to hook into the USB port to hook to my mp3 player. I am not listening to music on my mp3 player but my teens and I love to listen to audio books while going down the road.

One adapter I already owned only charged the mp3 player so I bought a different one yesterday that still does not work. This is the one I bought: http://amzn.to/1qoQsjS I know it says to PC but it doesn't require a driver so I was hoping it would work. I hooked my auxiliary cable into the mp3 player and tried both ports on this adapter with no luck. My car did not recognize the device at all so it would not even try playing anything.

My reason for using my mp3 player to play audio books instead of my mobile is that they will not expire when transferred to my mp3 player but through the app you have to play them through on the phone they expire after so many days. (I'm using overdrive.com through my local library to check them out.)

We have audio books already in progress with bookmarks but cannot listen to them until we get this fixed. Any suggestions or advice on how to make this work?

I searched several different threads with no luck to see if this problem has been posted before with no luck.

You should be able to use a USB to male headphone jack similar to this:

Doesn't the '16 Platinum also have Bluetooth connectivity? That would probably be the easiest... no wires.

PS; where in TN? My wife is from Knoxville.

Thank you for your reply, chefduane. I found one on Amazon like you suggested from Ebay that would arrive quicker but let me ask you about the bluetooth suggestion - Are you thinking I could get something to plug into my mp3 player to make it have bluetooth capabilities so that my system recognizes that?

I am in northeast TN about 2 hours from Knoxville.

Check your manual to see if the system in the car has Bluetooth capability. More than likely it does. Is your mp3 player strictly an mp3 player, or are you using the mp3 capability on an iPhone or Android? If your device has Bluetooth you should be able to set the output stream to BT and couple it with your car system for wireless music streaming. If it is a simple mp3 player, you could get a Bluetooth adapter like these http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&ke...vptwo=&hvqmt=b&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_71x27bgbe6_b and then couple that to you car system. Or you could use the simple cable method suggested previously.

I agree with Chef, the Bluetooth adapter is a good way to go.

My car does have Bluetooth because I've used it with my phone for Pandora. I am trying to use an older mp3 player though and it does not have that capability but I did see a Bluetooth headphone jack that may work.

I have been out of town for a few days and was unable to answer. Thank you, drdoom, for your input.

Leslie you can readily obtain an adapter to plug into the headphone jack on your MP3 player. Your head unit will then pick up the signal and you're golden. I understand your need to use an old player, I have one also that contains most of my collections, and due to digital rights management these files will only play on my old player. Best wishes.

Exactly drdoom! I'll have to find me one asap. We have three audio books going that we haven't been able to listen to in the last week and I'd like to get through them. Ha!

Thanks so much, ya'll!!
