Hi everyone, i just picked up a 97 explorer with control trac and am having some mild vibration and howling coming from the front end, it starts at about 35 km/h and when i slow down and make a right turn sometimes it clunks. i noticed a rip in my cv boot about half an inch long so im thinking it might be that the cv shaft is causing this but not sure.

do the cv shafts rotate all the time or just when in 4wd?

i replaced 3 ball joints and 1 wheel bearing and the rest of the front end is tight. any help with this would be great thanks

The CV axles rotate all the time. If there's a tear in the boot, you'll likely need to replace it. With a compromised boot, the internals will get trashed in no time.
