Does anyone know of a way to convert an older Ex to the mod AWD setup of the ones with the 5.0s in them

Your asking for a lot of work. To make a AWD V-8 out of a 94 woud be a be a lot of custom work. The suspension and Frame are different from 94 to 95 thing AWD came out in 96 (not sure). The Engine in the 94 Runs on ODBI and the 96 Runs on ODBII. So it wth not just plug in. Lastly you would have to wire up AWD T-case to work with every thing. I am sure you could use the a 94 4x4 front end if you want to do the rest.

It would be cheaper to buy a AWD V-8 Explorer.

Or find a wrecked later model 5.0 AWD with a decent frame and put your 94 body on it. But Kris is right, the 2 suspension and drivetrain setups are very different, including all the frame mounting points. The AWD system is made to work on the torsion bar setup of the 95+, not the 91-94 setup. Now, you could always swap in a 5.0 and if yours is 2wd, convert it to an early model style 4wd. That would work. But like Kris said, it might just be a whole lot easier and end up being cheaper to buy a later model 5.0 AWD truck.

Thanks guys I know that there will be plenty of custom work involved. :hammer: Could an 91 to 94 Aerostar possibally be a better route to go (not sure if the same frame??) but I know that there is AWD Aerostars from that year.
