Hi, the temperature gauge fluctuates on my 1994 Explorer and gives inconsistent readings like a lot of other posters on the forum so I want to change the sender.

I have two specific questions:

1. Does the sender wire just pull off the top of the sender? The top of the sender is threaded and almost looks like the wire could be screwed on. If so, I don't know how you'd unscrew it though!

2. Do you need to use teflon tape (or any other tape or sealant) when replacing the sender? Or, can you just screw the new one in? A little worried about leaks if no tape is used.

I am going to go ahead and replace the thermostat as well while I am at it. Any other gotcha's, tips, or things to be aware of?

Thanks!

Seeing as i did this last month i'll answer your questions, 1 yes it just pulls off and 2 i did and i don't have any leaks. hope this answers your questions

Thanks for the quick reply! Just to clarify; you DID use teflon tape?
