corrosion inhibitors without anti-freeze

Thank you all for the good advice. However:

I bought the Explorer at an auction. It had almost nothing in the radiator at that time which was why is sold for a low price. Otherwise the Explorer had been well taken care of. So if the cooling system had been well maintained, all those repairs would not have been needed.

I grew up riding horses and think of road driving as a way to avoid time actually working that requires little more than the reflexes almost everyone is born with. Race driving is dare-devilishness. According to the news, in some places like Fresno, teenagers are no longer interested in getting a car. They have phones, the internet, parents, bicycles, buses and trains. For most of us the open road is stop and go. Under present trends, our cities will begin to look like Hong Kong.

It's mainly companies periodically moving their employees and the real estate companies that cause so many to live so far from work.

Phew, I'm glad I don't have any of these problems and can just use regular antifreeze in ignorant bliss. ;)
