I wasn't sure whether to post this in the stock Explorers or the Modified Explorers forum. I guess since what I'm asking about is modifying that this would be the right place.

Anyway, is there anyway to change out the instrument cluster in a 2003 Explorer XLT? I want one with the white gauges. I found an 04 one but I'm not sure it will work. Is the milage stored in the cluster or elsewhere? I figured that since it is a digital output that maybe the computer stores it so if you plug in a new cluster all the information would show up. Am I wrong?

I like the taillights on the Mountaineers. They have like a little chrome grill over them. I have searched everywhere to find them but I can't find them anywhere. Any of you have any idea where I can get some?

Also, I want to put a better exhaust on my Explorer. There was a guy here a while back that had dual exhaust on his 02 that came out right behind the wheels. Anyone know who that was and how much something like that costs?

EDIT: There was one more thing. A lot of people put those matching billet grills on their Exes. Is there any grills for the smaller hole that match the stock grill? I happen to like the stock grill but dislike the hole. There is a grill type thing in there but I think it would look awesome with a matching grill.

ill answer two of ur questions that i kno of.... the first is with the matching grilles.... if u go billet then u can get both that match but unfortunately theres no OEM grille that fits in the bottom space...

with the exhaust... i have a flowmaster 40 on my V6 if u want to hear it ill put the link at the bottom of this... the fact of running duals is that ud have to remove ur spare cuz there is practically no space to run it to the other side... the only way to do that would be to run the pipe under the differential and back up which i think looks pretty crappy and ur sacrificising clearance... if this explorer is gunna be a street rod then i think ud be ok with running duals... i did a single outlet out the left side... i hacked off the part of the pipe that turns to run it to the back and i just welded a tip to where it would point diagonally....

I swear there was a guy on here that had dual exhaust that came out the sides behind the tires and he didn't have to get rid of his spare. Maybe he did and I am remembering wrong but I really wish I could remember who it was. I think his Explorer was a 02 and it may have been white. Either way he had wire wheels on it. I remember that.

Alex (awdrocks) has put true dual on his. It can be done without removing the spare tire, but it's gonna be a lot of bends in the pipes. Any good exhaust shop can do it though. As for the instrument cluster, I believe the 04 will not work on an 03, not 100% sure on that though. You might want to research it some more. Something to do with the needles. Where did you find it at anyway? I've been looking for one for my 04

After seeing a picture of a 03 cluster and an 04 cluster I am pretty sure the units are different shapes. The 04 white gauges I found are on eBay. I don't have a link but I think I found 'em searching for "Explorer Gauges."

Does awdrocks have wire wheels? The exhaust I want is on a posters Explorer that has wire wheels. I am sure of it because in one of the under side pictures of the exhaust you can see right through the wires of the wheels.

LOL...no awdrocks doesn't have wire wheels! He actually has his coming out his back bumper. But like I said, just take it to a shop and let them give you a quote on it. Any reputable shop can do it

Hey yeah i have the wire wheels and i haven't had any problems with the cleareance of the exhaust so i don't think it should be a problem. it cost me around 450 dollars just go to a shop and get a quote. ill post some pics also and if you want a sound clip ill post it 2 just ask.

You're the guy! I knew I remembered wire wheels. Thanks for posting. I couldn't really remember much about the exhuast 'cept I want it and it came out the side. Thanks again.

Also, I really like yoru exhaust.

i never said u cant run duals... i said the pipe has to go under the differential because it has no other place to go and u lose ground clearance
