I'm not sure what the craftsman one looks like, the one I got was from an auto parts store

i edited it with a link, ive been to every store around here and no one carries it:mad:

I've never seen or tried a 12 point socket to pull off the auto hub nut. It does look like it may be too shallow.

This is the "normal" socket..

Its a pretty common tool. Vitrually all auto parts stores around here carry it including the ones that jobbers use (carquest etc).

yea thats the one ive allways seen too.i know it doesnt have to be real deep from working on it before,i used a huge set of channel locks, but when i asked the guy how deep it was on the phone he said "uhh i wouldnt call it deep and i wouldnt call it shallow".i asked him to measure it and he said "well i dont really have a tape that will go inside it" so i was over his ass by then!!guess it was to hard to measure the outside!!:thumbdwn::thumbdwn::mad:

I've used the Craftsman one before I could find the other one. Works OK to remove the hubs, but is a bit to shallow to really work well to seat them. It also has thicker walls. I would use the hub tool.

yea its new rotors and bearings so i really wanted one the works well so i can seat and tighten them properly.

The craftsman is also 3/4" drive, so you would have to get a ratchet too:( The one the parts stores carry is 1/2" drive.

ive got a 3/4 ratchet:thumbsup::just my 2 3/8 happened to grow legs and run away:thumbdwn::mad:

If you can't find it at the parts stores (unusual, but any NAPA, Autozone, Advance, etc should be able to order it and have it in days if not the next day), maybe try your local MAC tool guy if you have one. I got it from MAC for way less than the parts stores, lifetime warranty too. Snap-on used to make one under the Blue Point label, don't know if they still do.

If nothing else, you can always get one online.

I doubt the Craftsman 3/4 socket will work, those sockets are at least an inch or two shallower than the specialty socket.

The Craftsman socket won't work on the axle nut on 4x4s.. Around here you can find it at auto specialty shops, spring shops, as well as some standard auto parts stores (maybe under the free rental sections). Of course when you're looking for it you can't find it anywhere, but when you're not looking you find it all over the place.. go figure..

yea i got all most every tool needed to work on fords including a hub nut socket set but of course the ex takes a different one.ive had them off before but used a big ass set of channel locks and went to one store and they didnt have them for sale or rental and thought man ill never need that socket again or i could use my craftsman socket till it ran away too.well i ordered a new one it shipped and will be in my hand tomorrow.three day free ship cant beat it,seemed like a good price and for it shipped.here is where i got it if anyone ever comes across the same state shortage of 2 3/8 sockets that i did!!haha:mad:thanks for the reply's guys, saved me $36 for a socket that wouldn't work.

I hunted for it.......and found mine (looks like Maniak's pic). It's cheap sheet steel that has been wrapped around a mandrel then welded. And, the fit is somewhat loose. Actually, I tried two different brands of sockets......they were both loose. But, what the hell........for tightening (putting things back together) it doesn't need to be "ape tight." FWIW, I used my cheap socket and my M1 calibrated fingers.;)

Aloha, Mark

The real question here is why are you using auto hubs with 35s?
