I need new brakes and one of my rotors is just BEAT DOWN, so I figures I'd go with a cross-drilled rotor for a little sportier look (I have rims that show a lot of the rotor)

My questions:
1) Anyone have links besides Stillen. I'm looking to spend ~200 dollars if possible
2) I know "they're prone to cracking" and whatever, but it's not like I autocross my beast. She just has 700 pounds of stereo to bring to a stop. Won't cross-drilled be ok for daily driving/stopping?
3) Anyone have pics of either slotted/cross-drilled rotors on their Ex? The slotteds don't do much for me in the style department, so I probably won't be going that route.

Thanks gang.

care to ellaborate?

"Bunch of crap" for MY application maybe?

Surely not a "bunch of crap" for true racing applications.

Care to explain if it's the price/performance ratio that's the issue, or maybe they crack under heavy use when installed on our trucks?

Sorry, I prefer actual QUALIFICATION of blank statements like yours.
;)

He is just talking out his ass based on the fact that he didn't provide any facts to back up his "conclusion", if you want to call it that.

Anyway, I have drilled and slotted rotors from Summit Racing. If you search on their site you'll see them. So far I haven't had any cracking problems from them, but I don't do any heavy driving, just daily driving mostly. They will improve the braking performance if you use some high performance pads with them like Hawk pads, but don't expect anything earth shattering. They do help a lot though, especially if you have heavier wheels or have a lot of stereo equipment in the back.

DING DING DING!!
Hatman is the winner. I have 700 pounds of extra crap to slow down.

Any chance you have a PN from Summit? THANKS MAN

we had some cracking problems with the brembos on my wifes beemer car, granted a far larger rotor and diff application but drilled nevertheless, they were replaced with Brembo dimpilled and slotted rotors.
EE Ibelieve sells slotted rotors for your application.
Summit racing also has a great online catalog, good luck

Summit has a great online catalog that is almost impossible to find stuff in.

Free Phone call also works 1-800-230-3030. part # for your 97 is PWR-AR-8551-LR

Zinc coated, CNC machined drilled/slotted rotors, custom made down here in Canoga Park, California. I can get you a set for $210 + shipping to your door, for any Explorer, 2WD/4WD/AWD and both ABS or non-ABS equipped.

I noticed a real nice difference with 70+lb wheels and a huge ass box in the rear. I used Hawk pads as well. Cracking is just utter bullshit to those who are jealous, I'm so tired of hearing it, but it does happen in some cases, but it shouldn't sway anyone away from having them. I do some canyon runs alot and have held up perfectly, I love it. You will be happy, as they are cheaper than what Ford asks for stock replacements.

Let me know at draft AT pacbell DOT net if you're interested.

I'm glad someone has noticed this besides me

Draft: Jealous of what, and as you state, it do's happen, mostly under extreame brake use not likely to be seen with an Ex:)
But it happend with my wifes M6, brembo has since changed the design from croosdrilled only the chamfered crossdrilled as they are not as prone to cracking

I only buy from summit if I have the part # from somewhere - I don't know if any of you guys have used ekeystone.com as a distributer for parts before (as if you were working for a motorsport shop or something), but it reminds me of exactly that. :|

And spindlecone - I won't ask how your wife drives, because the driver is a big part of it. There's also something called faulty design that every manufacturer is prone too, so yes, I do understand that these things can happen.

My Wife is now going to drivers school to work off 4 tickets in 3 mos, her problem not mine, she beats the s$$t out of HER car.
My point was and is, crossdrilled rotors, under extream conditions that generate alot of heat have been known to crack, thats why most highend rotor manufacturers such as Brembo are using a modified crossdrilling technique also utilizing slots.
have no ***** with what you claim as I do not thing one can run any EX to extreame conditions unless perhaps heavy towing applications

I searched Summit for like 10 minutes and it seems to skip over PWR-AR-8551LR.
Search came up blank too. They list at least 50 different Powerstop PN's. You sure that's the right one? If I get a break from work I'll just call. Draft; your totors look great bro. Any idea what shipping to Gainesville, FL. (32606) will be? I wanted to keep this as close to 200 bux as possible, and your price is great, but sjipping could be a deal killer.

Thanks gang.

Wow.. JEG's wants 124.99 a piece for those 8551's and it takes 2-3 weeks since they're special order. Hmmm...

The ones I got from Summit are made by Extreme Performance, which isn't even listed under their manufacturers list, so maybe they don't carry them anymore or something.

typhoon, i'd have to check. there's 4 boxes of which the fronts weigh quite a largesome, i'll get back to you later tonight or tomorrow morning, whenever i can run home and weigh my old rusted set.

4 boxes? Just for the fronts?
Do these require new calipers or something?

I'm definitely interested

Nono, there's four boxes altogether. One for each rotor. The biggest of the four being the front rotors. Get me the specifics on your setup and I'll call in today and see how long the turn-around time is. Need to know 4x4/2wd/awd, ABS or not, all that. No need for new calipers, don't know where you got that idea. ;)
