HELP...I screwed up! I just swaped out my ignition wires for a set of AC Delcos this morning. I have a 1999 OHV Sport. I accidentally crossed the #6 & #5 wires. I started up the explorer and it ran rough, got worse and died. I realized my mistake when I checked the wire paths...I uncrossed the connections and the motor is backfiring, the exhaust smells like rotten eggs and is REALLY rough...I am praying that there is no permenant damage done!

Has anyone else done this? What should I do?? The explorer really cannot drive now, and Monday is a few hours away.

HELP!!

I've done it nearly everytime I've put new plug wires on.

Check the rest of the wires to make sure they are going to the right cylinders and that they are actually connected to the plugs.

Did you replace the plugs as well?

No damage should occur.

Thank you. I rechecked against the haynes manual diagram, and I did in fact have more than one wire mixed up...I got them in line with the manual now and she's runnning now. Is it gonna be okay?

The plugs were replaced not too long ago (6 months ago). My truck has 115k on it. I could not get to them to do it myself..the shop i used installed Autolite platinum plugs.

Thanks again for your help..I needed someone to bounce this off to screw my head on straight.

Thanks guys. My 99 is running like a champ again!

My grandpa taught me to change one wire at a time.

It should be fine. I'm sure a lot of us have done this at one point in time. I've done it before. No worries, if it runs fine you'll be alright.

LMAO reminds me of my younger days when i had 1-2 wires out on my older ford car and it did not backfire at first or at idle, i took that sucker out the driveway and down the road and all i could see is neighbors looking at me like i was nuts or something.. that dang thing was bang and poping so loud i was deaf to all around me.... lmao

I have never crossed wires, I do mine one at a time so I don't have to worry about crossing wires or staring at the wiring diagram making sure I did them right.
