Cruise control button lights

I noticed at night the buttons for the cruise control on the left side of my steering wheel are backlit so you can see the words "on" and "off" but the buttons on the right side do not have the words illuminated. Is that supposed to be that way or is there a bulb out or something? I find it unusual that the buttons are lit on the one side but not the other.

Bulbs blown or a short in the connector

Does anyone know if they are in fact bulbs that light up the cruise button words or if they are LED and require button replacement?

That I'm unsure of the ones in my Taurus went out and I never dug into them
