Relax smarty, I am looking for one...

I was pretty sure that would take care of the problem. After working on this junk for 25+ years. I've learned quite a few tricks and shortcuts from some of the best. I've worked in new truck dealerships, (dad owned one for 15 years), on everything from jeeps to dozers to aircraft loaders in my 14 years as a heavy junk mechanic in the military, supervised a machine shop and worked on countless thousands of special projects for myself and friends.

I have a little experience under my belt and am always happy to help a friend in need. There's probably nothing you could break or mangle that would surprise me.

Anyway, glad I could help, you can buy me a coke the next time we're in Attica.

In case no one told you yet, you might want to look into getting a skidplate.

Todd

Ya, that skid plate thing...I'm on it.

If you gotta weld tank (not plastic!)...

I new pros that would dry the tank, and then fill it with a constant flow of an inert gas like Nitrogen. Then there's no O2 to combust with. But, this stunt should not be attempted at home by amatuers!

Just get a SKID PLATE, Solves the whole problem. Then you wont have to worry about it any more.

Roadkill, It's all fixed.

and....

I FOUND A SKIDPLATE!!!!

2001ExpSport, Where'd you find your skidplate and how much?

I've got the same problem. I'll be sure to post a pic tomm night, but I've hit it twice and the guy before me, once. I think I'm out about a gallon or two. I'm very surprised it isn't leaking yet.

So I need a skid plate, and probably a new (used) tank.

And to confirm with everyone, yes, the 95+ tank is definitely metal.

Try blowing it out like I did. Restored it to the original shape.

The skid plate you can get from Ford. They stopped installing them on the 97. So, ask for the part number for a 97 skid plate and order that. The plate comes with everything you need and you should already have mounts in front of the tank. The price was $118.

That's what not to do with your gas tank.

Hehe, mine was much worse than that. You shouldn't have a problem blowing it out.

Good luck

Well, I couldn't pop it out, although I could only get it up to a couple of psi 'cause it was leaking from the top of the tank I think. Oh well, it's not that bad.

But, I do have a skid plate now. $90 + shipping from www.fordpartsonline.com

Now its time to go test it out. . .:)
