Cup plug leaking oil

It is the plug closest to the transmission on the driver's side and is leaking pretty good. These aren't that hard to replace, are they? I think you just tap one side until the other side pops up, then pull it out and tap in the new one. My next question is, what may have caused this? Other than simply putting in a new cup plug, what else do I need to do to make sure it doesn't continue to leak?

I have pics of the leak but now way to host them. I can email to if anyone wants to look at them to get a better idea.

I originally posted this problem in this thread, but thought I would start another one with a more appropriate title. Can a mod delete my earlier post? I tried to do it myself, but it wouldn't let me.

Are you talking about a freeze plug? Can you please post a picture of what's leaking.

I'll have to figure out how to host pictures, then I'll get one posted.

A quick description: it is a steel, cup shaped cap that is press fit low on the engine block. If you were to pop one out it looks like you would be able to access the crankshaft through it. They are about 3-4" in diameter and are installed with the open side of the cup to the outside. They look just like the little ones you use to replace the rubber seals on the top of our M50 trannies, just bigger. I am referring to it as a cup cap because that is how the manual refers to them. I don't know whether they are also called freeze plugs.

As I think about it more I think this is because I switched to synthetic oil at my last oil change, and it has probably just knocked out some of the old dino oil.

Okay, I guess it is a freeze plug. Should I go through the hassle of trying to replace it with a new one, or just keep a good eye on the coolant level? I guess my biggest worry is, why is it leaking? Here are the pics:
