cv joint/ half shaft free play

I have a vibration coming from my drivetrain and I'm thinking it's the cv joints. I noticed there is about 3/4 inch of free play in the cv joints if you try moving them side to side. Is this normal or is that the problem? thanks in advance.

i dont know about the cv shaft if that is normal but a common problem is losing the boot on the front driveshaft at the cv joint by the transfer case check that out too

Perfectly normal. The only thing that holds the halfshafts together is that they can't expand enough to come apart while in the diff and hub.

That's why i'm confused, the cv's in my parents cars are all tight but in my truck they're lose and i get a vibration. I'm so lost right now with this vibration problem.
