CV shaft keeps popping out of differential.

Recently I picked up a 04 XLT. The other day I noticed the diff was leaking from the axel seal. Put it up on the lift and noticed the axel was not fully seated in the diff. So I used a pry bar and got the axel to sit back in the diff properly. But once again the axel has worked itself out of the diff slightly. I am thinking that the c clip is bad. I have never had anything like this happen before. Any other ideas?

My guess would be the clips. I'm pretty sure the book says to replace them when you remove the axels.

I got some from the dealer a couple weeks ago for $4 each. Super simple to change.
