ok help,i just bought a alpine cva 1005,i didnt know untill i won the auction that it doesnt play cd's!!! will the stock 6 disc changer in my 96 EX work? can i just hook up my ps2 to play dvd's?and what about the bypass thingee i heard the dvd wont play while driving unless you have this bypass switch, how much are they? anybody know where i can get one?.help?????? please!!

The problem with the stock changer is that you're going to need the stock HU to send it the proper controls. I won't say it can't be done, but it would (imho, of course) be a LOT more trouble than it's worth.

The bypass switches are about $20 on ebay.

The PS2 can be setup fairly simple, just get a converter, run your sources in and presto.

Best bet is to do it right. The 1005 is a really nice unit - but it's basically just a controller. Match it with an AINet Qlpine 6-disc (cheap, $150 or so shipped from most places) and you'll have your CDs there and PS2 for DVD - or grab a DVD changer (more money, but oh so nice) that'll do both.

an audio shop guy told me they charge 60.00$ an hour for labor.im sure theyll take 2-3 hours for an install which probably takes an hour. how hard is the install?Im thinking I could probably pull it off.

Installing the CVA? Or a CD changer?

It depends what you're into. Personally I just like to work on car audio, regardless if it's my car or not. :)

Both are relatively easy - CVA needs a wiring harness and a dashkit. CD player needs to be screwed in somewhere happy and then just plug in one wire to the back of the deck.

The PS2 would be a little trickier if you haven't done much tinkering around. If you get a base quote of $200 or so up front for them to install all 3 - sure, drop it off, go grab some lunch and come back. If they're not going to give you an up front price and just say "$60/hr, no idea how long it will take", I'd take your business somewhere else.

If you do get it installed - don't forget to tip the installer. :) A 12-pack or a 20-spot will go a long way if you run into some trouble down the line.
