Hello All,
:exp:
I have a 1996 Ford Explorer V6.
I had it tuned up recently - new plugs and wires. They wanted to do a compression check and everything turned out fine (it had been lagging on acceleration and popping out the exhaust).
After the tuneup, it ran like a dream!
A few weeks later, I had them do new gaskets on the valve covers and timing something? It was leaking oil bad.
Right after this, the rig starts shaking at idle. Left to right. Never done this before. Mechanic reads the check engine code - it's cylinder 6. Also - the exhaust sensor has been triggered, and it smells like gas.
He pulls the spark plug and says it's a bad plug. He replaces it and it doesn't change anything. He checks the pressure and says it's at 70. "Too low - you gotta re-do the seals, which is a couple grand"
I asked "so, how is this connected to the bad (black) spark plug?"
He replies "it's not." I ask "so it's a total conincedence?" "Yes"
I couldn't believe it. I called a mechanic friend and he said it's definitely related. He told me to run some sea foam through it. Now I'm not sure where to take it or what to do next ...
I use my rig for work and it's great. I hope it's salvageable. I've put a lot of money and love into it. I'd love for it to stop shaking! And of course, I'd love for the engine to fire right.
It's also throwing a "Selenoid C" code (something in the tranny?). I'm not sure what that is all about, but it seems to be shifting a little late (at high rpms).
Any tips/suggestions etc. are welcome. I'm in the Seattle area.
THANK YOU!
