I was walking behind my X today and noticed that a hose was hanging from the undercarriage. I got under to look, but I cannnot figure out what this thing does. One end is attached to the left rear axle, by the left rear shock. The other end goes up above the spare tire and is just clamped to the frame, not ending at anything. Is it just some sort of exhaust hose? Does it need to be replaced? I can see it in a picture in my Haynes manual, but it isn't labeled. It broke in half near the axle, at the tip of where it appears to be covering a screw. Any help as to what this is would be appreciated.

this is your rerar axle breather line... it is fine if you dont see any offroading or deep puddles.. you could extend it or at least replace it to the stock position

Sweet, thanks. If it's nothing serious I'll fix it when i get around to getting to the store to pick up a length of hose.

Same thing happened to mine, i just reattached it and good as new.

this is what mine looked like
