Well I can advise you on one NOT to get. It's the Lock-Right. I had a 95 Ranger with an 8.8 inch rear end. Had the truck set up to do some serious pre-running. Installed the Lock-Right,......lasted a week. Sheared all the teeth off one side. Tried to take it out, uh, no luck. It was hard to get it in there the first place but hell if I could get it out. I would never buy another one.

I agree, I've heard some bad things about Lock Right in terms of durability. I think you would be better off with a Detroit locker, they've been bulletproof since the 70's, but they are expensive. As far as the EZ-locker, it's main selling point is ease of installation. Sorta sounds like a Lock Right. Have you looked into the Detroit Gearless Locker? It is supposed to be a lot smoother and quieter.

On another note, I see that you are from PA. Having driven through PA enough in the winter, I know that I would not want locker on my car if I lived there and my explorer was an everyday driver. Just something to consider.

Let us know what you decide and how you like it.

If you are going to do any serious rock crawling I wouldn't use the EZ locker or Lockright locker. Both use the stock carrier and use the same similar design. They are both decent lockers but they don't make your diff any stronger than it was.. and they put more stress on it. If you need a strong locker get a regular Detroit locker (not the ez locker). I run a lockright in a ford 9" on a full size van and have had 0 problems with it. If I was rock crawling with the van I would have put in a detroit or ARB for strength.

On the subject of Lockers...

I was reading an article on SAE's (Society of Automotive Engineers) website the other day about a German made set up that sounded decent. It also sounded very expensive though. It involved using clutches and a pump much like an automatic transmission. It's number 2 on their top 50 products list.

I emailed the company for more information. I haven't heard anything back from them yet though...

I also noticed another locker type product that SAE put there name on that was made in Japan. I didn't find any info on the company though. It's a lock-up helical gear differential. It looks half decent too... You even have a switch on the dash to control lockup. Kinda like the ARB... I found out this company is affiliated with Nissan but haven't gotten around to calling them to find out what the price is or whether or not we can get them in the US.

Here's a link to the write up about that one...

I just lookerd at a site with great prices on all of the Ford Motorsport axle parts: Check (dead links) havent ordered from them yet but others who post here have. D/L, torsen,Auburn, Trac lok all have Ford Motorsport P/N's.

I think the D/L was $410.00 best I found previous was $480.00
