93 4 dr 4x4 manual XL.
Hey, got some tranny fluid today to change it out in my manual '93.
They gave me Dexron -V1
I never heard of that before. Just doing my due diligence here before I change the fluid. Can't seem to find reference to it on the site.

Ummmm... Is it backwards compatible? -do I have to worry?

Dexron is Chevy's deal, Mercon is what you want. I don't think it would matter a ton, being a manual. It's the automatics that get picky due to clutches and specific pressures. The manuals are pretty much oil bath so as long as there's a thin lube in there, it should be fine. I'd be concerned about maybe an incompatible additive or something along those lines, like the old gear oil that would eat brass syncros.

The label said replaces Mercon 3, and Castrol website says slightly different that Dexron V but compatible. Apparently Mercon is unavailable now?
Anyway I put it in there, after reading up a bit more, couldn't really find anything definitive on it though.

Its perfectly fine. I run valvoline maxlife in everything, which is dextron VI. Tranny fluid now is backwards compatible with nearly every type.

If it replaced Mercon 3, then it's a universal type fluid and I wouldn't worry about it. Like 2stroke, I use Valvoline MaxLife and it's a Dex/Merc universal and works great. Especially since you have a manual, just run it and enjoy.
