I had the abs light on the dashboard, so looked into a diagnostic gor home use.

I can strongly recommend the icarsoft i920, cost 99quid and read the fault codes off all the systems.

Do you know if it gives info on the Gearbox?

It appears to be able to access the transmission ecu.

just downloaded this software which is specifically for Ford, Lincoln, Mercury using ELM 327 and it read all sorts of stuff off my 1998 Explorer and correctly identified the model etc. Best of all it`s FREE!! I used my windows tablet to access the vehicle no problem.

It`s so called Beta software for windows iPhone and android but seems to work fine.
