Differences in Ford's blocks

Does anyone know if the sohc blocks from the explorer (2nd gen) and the blocks from the mustang v6 (~05ish) are interchangeable? Same question w/ the 5.0's from the explorer & the newer 5.0 crate engines. Just trying to see if they are interchangeable & to see if maybe there's any power gains and/or if they're stronger/better.

SOHC blocks are the same. You can use all the pushrod 5.0l blocks in the explorer. If you are looking for a production block to be stronger there aren't any differences in that unless it is a Mexican block, Boss or Aluminator. All production 5.0L's (1982-1996) typically have the same strength. Supposedly the 5.0L hasn't seen a production block since 1996- they cast enough to have years worth of supplies but I still see them labeled as "new". So who knows.-j
 






Oh ok thanks. So as far as the 2nd gen. Explorers & the newer 05 v6 mustangs, they're the same engines but the only difference would be the electrical, right?

The long blocks are basically the same but not the intake manifold and accessories. There is no crankcase breather on the Mustang and it has differenct injector seats as I recall.
 






Mexican 5.0 Block = High Nickel 302 pushrod block

Boss 5.0 Block = A4 or R302 4 bolt main high HP pushrod replacement block (unless your talking about the Coyote Boss block)

Aluminator 5.0 = Modular and/or Coyote short/long blocks or complete engines built for boosted applications.

There is an apples to oranges thing going on here, unless you take into account the V6 stuff which brings carrots into the equation.
