ive got a 97 mercury mountaineer with the AWD and 5.0. recently had 31 x10.5 x 15" BFG A/Ts installed. i needed more clearence, so i did the TT for almost 2" and a 3" shackle in the rear. it looks great, but the stock shocks are worn out at 120,000 miles. i was just going with some OEM replacements, but did the lift effect my current shock travel? i have no idea what i would need, so your input is appriciated. i was thinking of gabriels, monroes, procomp or a lower end replacement. i do 99.5% of driving onroad and want a softer ride. thanks in advance!

i just used after market monroe shockes for mine.

On the road, new shocks are probably not a MUST have. I know that when i did my TT and warrior shackles, i could feel them bottom out whenever i hit a speed bump or go over some dips off the road. If you go with a pro comp shock be sure to get them for 3-4 inches of lift. I went with 2'' and they were the same length as stock.

Get the stock shocks. The front end's geometry has not changed with the torsion twist, and the rear's changed by an inch or two at most... Not enough that the stock shock length is going to limit travel. If you run oversize shocks, you run the risk of over-extending the front suspension when drooped, and bottoming out the shocks on compression.

I have the stock size on my rear. I also have the rear shackles. I am looking for new shocks as well. I have spent countless hours researching different brands for the right fit. I want the extra couple of inches in my shocks, in the rear only. When I remove my rear sway bar and go wheeling, I get some crazy articulation, and the extra length will be welcome. I found what I want in size with the Rancho, RS999266. The fronts, I agree stock size should be used.
