Digital compass and temp. question

My 98 has the digital outside temp. and compass. Yesterday it said CAL beside the temperature. It only did it for a while and then it went away. What does CAL mean ??

CAL means its trying to calibrate. If you hit the mode button a few times it pops up. The manual says you should do this then drive around in a circle a few times until it gets established.
