Hello, I have a 2005 explorer and want to disable the "belt minder" option. I have followed the procedure in the owners manual perfectly and several times. the procedure does not work. at the end of the procedure the warning light is supposed to come one, then you unbuckle the belt one more time. the light does not come on. does anyone have any experience with this? thanks Kent

here is the procedure:
Before following the procedure, make sure that:
* the parking brake is set
* the gearshift is in P (Park) (automatic transmission) or the neutral
position (manual transmission).
* the ignition switch is in the OFF position
* all vehicle doors are closed
* the driver’s safety belt is unbuckled
* the parklamps/headlamps are in OFF position (If vehicle is equipped
with Autolamps, the Autolamps feature MUST be turned off.)

To reduce the risk of injury, do not deactivate/activate the Belt
Minder feature while driving the vehicle.

1. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN (or ON) position. (DO NOT
START THE ENGINE)

2. Wait until the safety belt warning light turns off. (Approximately 1–2
minutes)
* Steps 3–5 must be completed within 60 seconds or the procedure will
have to be repeated.

3. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the
safety belt unbuckled. This can be done before or during BeltMinder
warning activation.

4. Turn on the parklamps/headlamps, turn off the parklamps/headlamps.

5. Buckle then unbuckle the safety belt three times, ending with the
safety belt unbuckled.
* After step 5 the safety belt warning light will be turned on for three
seconds.

6. Within seven seconds of the safety belt warning light turning off,
buckle then unbuckle the safety belt

* This will disable BeltMinder if it is currently enabled, or enable
BeltMinder if it is currently disabled.

7. Confirmation of disabling BeltMinder is provided by flashing the safety
belt warning light four times per second for three seconds.

8. Confirmation of enabling BeltMinder is provided by flashing the safety
belt warning light four times per second for three seconds, followed by
three seconds with the safety belt warning light off, then followed by
flashing the safety belt warning light four times per second for three
seconds again.

9. After receiving confirmation, the deactivation/activation procedure is
complete.

Be sure none of the door sensors are malfunctioning and be sure the parking brake switch is functioning (brake light should come on).

It took me 2 attempts, gotta be quick at some points. You have to memorize the procedure, if you read it as you're doing it you WILL be too slow.

thank you ! I will try it faster. I was doing the buckling rather slow so maybe that affects it. tricky stuff but I hate that warning buzzer will post results

I tried doing it faster, and I'm sure it's correct. just won't work. I saw somewhere that a procedure for older models is "9" times to connect. now that does something, it makes the air bag flash at the end of the procedure, but still doesn't work. odd that Ford put something in the owners manual that is dead wrong....but I guess it's a minor thing. can always cut the wires and tie together. part of the problem is my autolamps, you can turn them off, but with the key on, the lights aren't really ever off.
