so i own a sport trac and an old BMW Z3 convertible. Now that the weather is nice in Florida, I'd like to use the convertible that has been parked at a friend's driveway for months.

I first had the convertible then I bought the sport trac. I transferred the tag and paid the fees. The convertible was just sitting there doing nothing. Anyway, I just want to drive the convertible for 4 months of the year, but they told me that I should pay registration/decal/plate fees of $300+. I thought I already paid those fees when I bought the car (I still have the title under my name).

So those of you with 2 vehicles, is this what you have to go through? Any way around it? thanks

My guess is, the key to your dilemma is
I transferred the tag and paid the fees.
.

In Arizona, it used to be the registration stayed with the vehicle. In that case the vehicle would be registered for the year, even if you didn't do anything with it BUT you would have to keep insurance on it because you "could" drive it. You didn't "move" tags/registration, you would just register another vehicle.

Now the registration stays with the owner, and not the vehicle. If you want to take your plate from 1 vehicle to another, you get a refund on part of the registration fee for the 1st vehicle and pay full price for the 2nd vehicle. If you want to switch it back you then get a refund from part of the 2nd vehicle and pay full for the first...

In our case, we have 6 vehicles registered, plus 2 trailers. We don't play anything with the registration other than I pay for multiple years on things I can (like the Van and Explorer) and did lifetime tags on the trailers. The way things are written, moving registration around ends up costing you more money.
