If one must use the "Gold", I presume the below will work?
I also read that this is a cheaper option -- is it also ok -- Zerex G05, at only $12 per gallon, less than half the price:
Amazon product ASIN B0033QQ4VW
2004 Mercury Mountaineer, 4.0liter, v6, "awd".

You can use zerex g05 instead of the motorcraft gold no problem.make sure the system is fully flushed and no any dirt or old busted coolant remained.dont mix between fresh and dirty coolant.

Keep in mind that new fresh coolant could probably cause old unserviced system leaks.

^ This is all you need, as bazz said.

Oreilly's claims this also works. Presently it's cheaper than Zerex G-05. I assume it will also work ?
"O'Reilly 1 Gallon Yellow 50/50 Antifreeze/Coolant - 87221".

Id you're not going to get any of the 3 recommended I would use the classic yellow bottle Prestone WHICH IS HELLA CHEAPER AT WALMART.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Prestone...s-300-000-miles-1-Gallon-Concentrate/16879960

Also, it's cheaper to buy a gallon of distilled water with it to make your own 50/50 mix rather than buying the pre mixed.
