I'm in the process of doing a BL to my sport trac and am looking to buy new wheels and tires. I just want to confirm either of these combinations will work:

15" wheel and 33x12.5 R15

OR

16" Wheel and 285/75 R16

Both wheels have a backspacing of 3.75"

I had a set of the street locks on one of my old Rangers and I really liked them. They looked tough and were very sturdy. Another nice feature, was that the valve stem was behind the "lock ring" so it was well protected from damage. The down side to them is that they are kinda heavy, and there is no way to put balancing weights on the outside flange, so there is potential for vibration. Mine was more of a trail pounder than a daily driver, so I never balanced them and it wasn't a problem for me. Of the ones you picked, the street locks get my vote.

Both of those will fit with a 3" BL and a small bit of trimming on the wheel well liners.

Alright, awesome! I just mainly wanted to make sure the rim wouldn't interfere due to backspacing and the 33x12.5 would fit those rims.

I believe I have seen this before but the 12.5 width tires will fit 8" wide rims even though it says the minimum should be 8.5" correct?

Yep, the 33x12.50's will be just fine on 8" wide wheels :biggthump

Great, thanks for the reply! I'll ask just 1 (i guess 2) questions so I can be sure and be able to look at different wheels without asking if they'll work. Whats the most backspace/least backspace for 15" wheel and what range of offset would allow for the wheel to not interfere with the calipers? For backspace I think I saw the most you can get away with for a 15" is 4.00-4.25, but what would be not enough backspace and cause the tire and wheel to stick too far out? I guess I having a range would help myself and others as reference when looking at different wheels

Thanks again!

EDIT: I'm pretty set on getting BF Goodrich All Terrain 33". If I am mostly road driving, would 10.5 wide be the better route? I do highway travel often and I know narrower tire will be better MPG but will it interfere any differently?

Ended up going with the very first combination listed expect changed to a 10.5 tire instead after reading around a bit. I think thats a better option for me since I don't offroad much. I'm looking to get into offroading much more, hopefully with this lift and other mods I am starting to do I will start!

10.50 isn't a bad width. It'll be an improvement over stock and won't kill your fuel mileage. Glad to see another person get bit by the bug!

Should work well for ya

I have 31 x 10.5's and they do pretty good work off-road around here so I think you'll be happy with that width.

Unfortunately the company I ordered the tires from called yesterday and said that they were out of the 10.5s and production for those doesn't start until September 7th so my order wouldn't be processed for almost 6 weeks. I decided to just bite the bullet and go with the 12.5s for $20 more
