Final Decision, I'm down to 3, which sub is best?

I have been straining my brain for the last two weeks about which sub is going to be my best bet. I have narrowed it down to three: JL 12W7, RE 12' x.., and the Elemental Design eA12.22. I am looking for GREAT SQ along with GOOD SPL. Money isnt really a factor but I dont know if I want to spend the $800 on the JL. What is the best buy and WHY? I dont want to be dissapointed. Will the other 2 compare to the W7 in SQ?
Thanks

The JL audio 12W7 is the only one of the 3 that I've heard but it was amazing - it was running off a 1000 watt JL amp and was shaking the whole store (demo car inside store).

If I get the money that is what I'm buying

I had a JL 12w7 running off a JL 1000/1 and it got fairly loud. Amazing sound quality but not really that great of spl stats. When you go to a show, you wont see people winning with w7s.. They get fairly loud, but the x.. will blow it away.

Someone told me that a sinlge W7 will hit in the low 140's, is that true? How is the x.. on SQ? I really like the price of the others compared to the w7. The W7 is my sub of choice but, not for $800. I'm trying to find a sub that is almost if not equal to the w7, for much less.

If that is the case, you want the x... My friend had a w7, that I built a ported box for. I have heard the w7 in sealed and ported enclosures. It is a very nice sounding sub, and fairly loud since it normally has more sd than subs of the same size. The problem is it uses a lot of proprietary parts that drive the cost up.

The x.. is around 400. The sq is amazing. Definately on par with the w7.

As far as spl, both of them get very loud on 1000 watts. Either is capable of low 140's in a street tuned box with 1000 watts. An spl box could get you high 140's pretty easily.

Guess which one I bought :D

BTW, from what I hear the elemental is louder on the same power, but I think you will lose some sq at high excursion/volume since it's bl curve is not optimized. But it is only 300 also.

I have read many articles that refer to the "BL" curve or level, what is that? I've never heard that term before.

Brahma Mk2 or x.....

They are the only subs with XBL^2 technology with the flattest BL on the market.

So what does this BL rating mean? What is the difference between a sub with a high BL rating and one with a extremely low BL rating?

I've always known BL to be the strength of the motor.. I can't say much about the XBL^2 motor structure because I haven't personally heard the drivers, but everyone else seems to love what they hear.

But, from personal experience with the 15a, it can get very loud and very clean.. Had 1600w going to it at one point, and it handled like a champ. This was in a 3cf box tuned at 27hz.

Maximum recommended RMS (not peak) for the 12a is 1400w. And from what I hear, it likes it.

BL is motor force for a speaker. It is product of magnet strength(b) and the amount of coil(l) in the gap. This is a very simple explanation, so no flaming from techies :D

BL is the main contributor to distortion on any speaker. Subs have an especially hard time with this because of the distance of their excursion. BL is normally parabolic. Like a hill, or the top of an egg. The peak bl is normall at rest. It falls off as the speaker moves in either direction. As bl decreases, force decreases, so you get less movement with more power, and this causes distortion. A flat bl will maintain linear motion with increase in power. This also gives it the potential to get very loud off less power.

Well if JL wanted a SPL speaker it would have take them 7 years to come out with the w7. The W7 is a sq speaker that can hammer, and handle just about anything thrown at it. for me I would go with the JL, but I have my JLs. the thing that you need to look at is what YOU like that is the most important thing, you have to live with it, Just get what you like and what sounds best to you is really what matters.

The thing is, I've never heard anything made by RE, or Elemental Designs. The price tag on the W7 is a bit high, but I have heard many good things about these other subs. I am just trying to gather information from people who have had experience with either or both of these subs. If those other two were really common and sold in stores then I would have made a decision by now. I dunno I guess I need to find the others and listen to them.

Visit the termpro board at termpro.com. I am sure there is someone in your area that has an elemental or RE setup. The is an RE forum, but I cannot remember where it is :(

Thanks I'll check that out.
