It started as a P1405 code which was a problem with the upstream hose to the DPFE. When I checked the upstream hose and where it connected to the exhaust manifold and sure enough the hose was split and quite brittle so I pulled the hose off to make sure I got the right size. When I returned and went to put the hose on it seems the upstream nozzle snapped off when I removed the hose ( the case was an OEM style aluminum which I read gets brittle - guess they were right) so now I have to get a new DPFE.

The problem is my Explore has a V8 5.0 engine and the DPFE is up against the firewall with a bracket overhead and the transmission dipstick in front of it which makes it difficult to get to so I am not sure I will be able get a wrench/socket in there to remove it. My question is if I mount the new module next to the old one with heavy duty zip ties and hook up the plug and hoses to the new module will it work and does the module require to be grounded in which case I would need to run a ground wire?

Finally Standard Motor Products - VP8T DPFE module - I found it at a couple places including Rock and it sounds like a nice deal.

Also curious as to the best method of removing it. Also, what size is the bolt? I lost a socket yesterday trying to size it out and then promptly went inside lol.

When I changed mine I laid on top the motor and used a 1/4 drive ratchet and a 7mm socket.
