Drive didn't engage any gear. I have to put in 2 and then in D to engage the gears

Hi,

I have a 1995 ranger splash 3.0L V6, automatic transmission with 70.000 miles.

Since I bought it the automatic transmission doesn't work fine. When I put the transmission in Drive position, the ranger doesn't engage the gear, but if I put the transmission on 2 or 1 and then on drive, everything works ok.

Reverse, 1 and 2 positions are working fine.

I changed fluid and filter and the problem still there.

Any suggestions???

i had the same problem in an A4LD trans.. i used some lucas trans slip and it fixed it for the few weeks i still had it. i then sold it. maybe its the modulator valve? there is a vaccuum line running to the intake, if it has fluid in it, the valve has failed. hopefully someone else can chime in with some ideas.
