HELP!! Intermittent Bang from the drivline?? 98 Explorer, auto trans with a BW4405 tc. 1st off, the 4X4 lights have been flashing for a while, and I know I need to do the shift motor rebuild. No problems until.. 100 miles from home, driving at about 65 mph on hwy I-5, going up a hill there was an occasional bang from underneath. The banging came more frequently but, intermittently. Sometimes when accelerating, sometimes when decelerating, at any speed. Banging is load. I found an AAMCO open, only place open Sat afternoon. They said definately tc gears destroyed, might be ready Tuesday afternoon, figure $2,000. I figured for $2K, 3 days, and 100 miles away, I'll take my chances. Nursed it home. drained tc fluid. Dark, burnt, and quite low (rear flange seal leaking). Split the housings open, expecting mush... nothing obvious, although I have no experiance with tc's. Chain is worn but not enough to jump teeth, I don't think. I have pics if someone can tell me how to post it. Shift fork is not broken. I haven't opened the clutch pack. Can it cause 'banging' in 2H if it's low on oil?

I did spin the rear wheels manually, yoke locked, and relealsed, (4:10 open), heard nothing. No error codes on my OBDII reader (Innova 3100), even with the shift motor disconnected?? Transmission shifting normally.
Any thoughts out there?? Any HELP would be appreciated.
