Driver's door does not lock.

The driver door does not lock on my 97 Explorer v8 5.0L!!!! The door panel appears to have been removed and not properly put back on when the previous owner installed new speakers. Can anyone help me out with some advise and/or info? I may not be a mechanic and just a girl as my brothers say but I will get out there with a diagram and instructions and do what I can. I think I can fix this problem. I will take it to a shop if recommended, but I would love to save money and gain some experience

I had the same problem with mine. Same year/same engine. If you take the door panel off, and look towards the linkage to where the door lock comes up through the door panel and connects to the locking mechanism, there's a plastic linkage thats likely broken/warn. I was able to just reconnect it. Someone else likely has alot more info about this problem, just speaking from direct experience. Best of luck.
