Not sure if this is the best place to post but here goes. I drove through some deep water today in my 98 mountianeer it was just above the running boards but below thr doors. I did check oil and trans fluid they looked fine . my question is do I have to worry about the x-fer case or dirffs? how deep can i safley go? thanks to every 1.

as deep as the vent hoses.

i would check those diffs. now. you do not want to ruin a ring and pinion.

I crawled under the mountianeer :navajo: last night to check the all the vent hose heights and I am almost 100% sure that they are higher than the water was. I think I might just pull the plugg and take a sample of the fluid to see if the is any water in the diffs. what kid of fluid goes in the transfer case? Mercron V?
its the 4406 I think. the AWD one. and how many quarts does it take?

Check your diffs oil. If milky you got water in there and need to change it.

Also for peace of mind you might want to extend your breather lines, then you wont have to worry about a little water.

I think I am going to extend them. How far , or where would be a good place to run the vent tubes?

i would also put one on the transmission to my friends truck got screwed up like that, but anyways i ran my front diff and transmission breather up behind the battery and there is a lil acces plug in the middle of the cargo area in the rear that were i ran my rear breather through to the inside of the cab. Hope this helps some.

Run vent lines for the front diff, tranny and xfer case up in the engine compartment. I ran my rear diff up into the gas fill.

once I do this is there any thing I should worry about if iI just happen to go through some deep water again? I am going to get some pics of the water I drove through (my brother took them with his cell) just so you guys could see how stupid I was. Thanks again.

Not really just check your fluids every once in awhile. Make sure they aren't milky.

I've had water up to the door handles and I have around 7 inches of lift. No harm done except for water on the floor boards.
