I have a '96 4wheel XLT and when it gets really hot outside my truck begins to stall out. First it starts running at a low RPM, then it start to shake, and eventually die out. However, if I keep it at a hight rpm or run it on the freeway it does fine. It only acts up when I stop at intersections or when I start the car. If you could tell me the possible problem I would appreciate it.

A couple things that you can check for is the ignition timing - if it is idling too low then you car will die out without a doubt. You can also check for clogged fuel injectors - try throwing in a bottle of fuel system cleaner and see if it goes away.

Brian:

Since the off-normal situations you report are also situations characterized by high intake manifold vacuum, check the fuel rail pressure at idle. The fuel pressure regulator, which reacts to manifold vacuum, may be causing your problems.
