I've got an 04 Mountaineer 4.0L Flex Fuel. I've got 63k on it and I haven't had any major problems.

My most recent problem is every once in a while my Mounty will die while I'm backing up and turning.

It's happens most commonly at my work and home because I just usually pull into my spot then back out when I'm leaving.

Anyone else had this problem? I don't know what the problem could come from.

I just recently changed alot of stuff within the last 10k miles.
- Plugs and Wires
- Air Filter
- Fuel Filter
- Battery ( It's an Autozone special because I'm putting it into storage soon )
- Oil was just changed about 1200 miles ago

I'm stumped. It happens when I'm usually in a rush too, I think it's just because I start the truck up too fast and before it has like a second or 2 to run I'm putting it into gear and moving. Although, it does do it when I'm not doing it too.

The 2004 has the throttle by wire system which rules out problems with the Idle Air Controller (IAC) which is what I would suspect in an engine with one.

It may be that the Mass Air Flow sensor is dirty giving the engine false readings that cause it to run so lean at idle with load (turning) that it stalls. Try cleaning the MAF with some spray electrical cleaner.

One might also suspect dirty injectors leading to an incomplete atomization of the fuel spray. Try a tankful of an injector cleaner with Polyetheramines (PEAs) in the formulation - it is the best family of substances shown to actually reduce injector, valve and carbon deposits in the engine by peer reviewed papers in proper journals.

There are two such formulations on the market that I know of, Redline SI-1 and Amsoil P.i.. Both of these contain significant amounts of PEAs. Some other cleaners may contain PEAs, but it appears from looking at various Material Safety Datasheets (MSDS) that most do not.

Rumple, I forgot to mention it but I have cleaned the MAF, and once a month I put in a some injector cleaner. I just seafoamed it last weekend and it smoked like a forest fire.

I've tried alot of stuff but I couldn't get it. I thought maybe someone else had the same problem.
