Well, some of you know I am sort of an E-Bay rat, and ferret out the best deals I can find online. I think I am pretty savvy, but I have learned a few things along the way, and have a couple stories to share. I received a shipment of a 4R70W drivetrain today that exemplifies the bad.

First off, buying ANY transmission part USED on E-Bay is a huge gamble. You need to know what parts MIGHT be prone to being bad, and have some level of trust. Example.... NEVER buy a USED 4R70W reverse drum or reverse sun gear. The ones being sold are guaranteed to be out of limits tolerance wise.

5R55E parts with needle bearings are also a gamble.... was the tranny fragged? Are the bearings 100%? I avoid those.... generally.

I have made some great E-Bay buys.... like a full NEW unused 4R70W gearset for under $200. New pumps of all kinds for about 1/3 retail. If you are buying new, price new and bid accordingly, remember shipping.

Now for some bad stories. First up... a 4R70W Reverse drum.... I learned my lesson here. Maybe once I get my MIG welder working I can make this good as new.... or so the seller told me.

Tonight? I bought a 4R70W gear train, used, but out of an "operational trans".

BS. The planetary had fragged and took everything near it out. I got only a decent direct clutch, a stub shaft, an output shaft and a forward drum that were useable (I never plan on reusing a reverse drum, and though it had not been part of the fragging, it was a POS anyway, they ALL are... used.

The seller says he will look around for a replacement planetary for me, and that I "got a good deal".... but to have shipped that POS geartrain out was irresponsiible. Such is life on E-bay.

Now all that said, I have a number of duplicate tool sets, for trannies and transfer cases I plan to offer here first. I think we all deserve first chance. And this seller you know. <g>

Not sure what made me post this, just seemed like a good time to share. Thanks for reading, join in with your experiences!

Oh Man i love ebay...I just scored a tranny bearing/seal kit for 188 for the m5od....

Pretty sweet...

I may offer a complete C-3 set....or a broken one missing non essential parts for a 4WD rebuild. The C-3 and A4LD pump tools are the same, the 4R and 5R are different and the 5R55W/S/ and N different yet.

Won a 5R55E pump alignment tool and valve body alignment pins 3 months ago and I never recieved it?

I have both good and bad luck on e-bay. I know i'm takeing a chance but what the hell. got burnt bad on a moter for atv,oh well, still buying

Well now my 4R70W drivetrain seller, a guy that goes by the E-Bay name FastPonyRacing... is saying he has no more 4R70W parts, but is willing to ship me T5 parts (which I have no use for), and that after all he "lost money" (so he says) on this crooked deal so "I cannot give you a refund" (like there is a connection there). He seems to think that because the sale was for less than he hoped, it was ok to ship fragged parts he said came from an operational tranny. Geeze.

I had left neutral feedback. I just don't have the heart to leave negative, but should have.

Consider yourselves warned about FastPonyRacing.

I bought a rebuilt a4ld from towing_man38 on ebay.Im still can't get over it.I got it for the starting bid of 450.00 plus 150.00 shipping.I put it in last week and my 94 ex is running great. No core return or charge and a 6 month warrenty The Guy is on the level and now I can rebuild my transmission for a spare.THIS WAS THE BEST DEAL I COULD FIND ANYWHERE

See... there is a jewel now and then !! Glad to hear.

All I can say is pay attention to sellers feedback. If they have any bad history or no history at all, do not buy. Another thing is "be an expert" in what you are bidding on, this will minium disappointment.

Excellent advice.... until someone like SilverisMoney1 LIES to you.

Things happen. My advice is when you get screwed, OUT the culprit. I will never again try and give anyone who lied to me the benefit of the doubt.

Never will I again advise anyone to buy ANYTHING from SilverisMoney1 on E-bay.

I am fairly new to this great site! I have surfed this site a little, is there a page where we have "perferred" sellers and "beware" sellers? I think if we all help each other out with good retailers and not so good retailers, we could ALL benefit. Let's start with SilverisMoney1 as YOUR nominee for the "not so good" page.

good sellers, bad sellers - sometimes you also meet bad buyers - people that could never be satisfied. Even though we know we sent them good stuff they claim it was broken or doesn't work - what do we do? to keep our good name out there we refund the money - and they get to keep the parts also...

we all have to deal with stuff like this every day no matter if it's ebay or not, believe me...

Man I've been waiting for a post like this for a while to vent my frustration...
;)

Glacier, I still say if you buy a glass ball at Home Depot or Ebay and put it on top of any of these trannies, you'll have an intersting yard ornament...the best use of a Ford Trannie.........or Dodge for that matter.......

I got a 5r55e off ebay. Seller claimed to have rebuilt and installed a shift kit.

2-3 flare (500 ish rpms)

It shifts quicker than stock but the firmness is not what I would like to have.

My original 5r has lost reverse is it possible for me to rebuild it with basic tooling?

Welcome to this forum! Most things could be done with regular tools, but some things are a necessity such as an In/Lb torque wrench, pump alignment tool if you are planning on opening up the front pump, and a clutch pack compressor (although many people here have improvised, and made their own).

Torque wrench is not a problem.

I would like to install new frictions and steals. So im assuming those alignment and compressor tools are needed. I do have a factory ford manual for both my vehicles. I suppose the ATSG(sp?) would be a good idea too.

Can you link me to the tools needed? If you know where the better price point ones are would be greatly appreciated.
