Easy Upgrades

I had a 96 explorer xlt that was loaded to the gills that I loved that ended up dying on me. I bought a 02 xls for next to nothing and I really like it but I am missing my amenities that I had on my xls. Is there any easy upgrades to the xls that make it more like a xlt (door keypad, trip computer, outside temp guage, fog lights etc...)

you named some easy ones.... If your not afraid to do a lil modding I'd add some nice fog lights if I'm right those are round? so cut out the plastic and add em. Keypad if its as easy as my fusion was it was the best 110.00 painted, programmed, installed... I ever spent... Running boards? maybe do a little on the inside. Those xls's are pretty plain jane I believe prob compareable to the XL models? or Sports??? I'm not too knowledgeable on the 3rd gens but I'd customize it to make it 1 of a kind just how you like it.. oh and show us too we love pictures over text

I'd love to add the keypad, I am pretty handy bit I'd have no idea where to start. Anyone ever do this mod before?

you can get keypads that work the same as your key remote. it just works wirelessly and it has an adhesive strip on it to mount to your door. seems pretty simple to me

+1 thats what I have. Part was 85 dollars you can program it with your key and one xmitter. It was very very straightforward and works flawlessly. IF you are set on it I'll take a pic of it with my phone and pix message it to your phone... looks like perfect from the factory. You'll be very very pleased with this addition.

EDIT: camping, hunting, bars, clubs, fishing.. anything I could loose my keys they are hidden in car (mat, dash panel, center consol) and doors are locked. its really well well well worth it

I believe some members have switched their bumpers from the xls one to an xlt with the fog lights on it, if you do a search it might come up.

Why upgrade to a stock XLT? Why not make your truck special and different?
