hey guys.. i have been waiting to put a locker in my truck until the two electric lockers come out so i can compare all the selectables available for my truck. i recently asked eaton about their e-locker and why it wasn't released back in october as they first stated. this is response i got.

Jason:

The Ford 8.8 ELocker(TM)differential both front and rear axle applications
will be available Third Quarter of this year. We had some delays in securing
quality casting sources for the case that met Eaton's aggressive quality
levels.

We now have the components to supply the robust product that our customers
expect of an Eaton product.

Sorry for the delay.

so.. i didn't know what he meant by front 8.8. i replied asking what he meant and what applications used the 8.8 up front. (i didn't know of any) and also asked about them making one for the IFS "dana35" front end of the 95+ explorers. here is the response for that. i haven't corresponded past this..

Jason:

I believe the Ford F150 has an 8.8 front axle as do some of the F250s and
vehicles based on these platforms. The Dana 35 you asked about is on our
list but will be at least a year out as we have other designs scheduled
first. (We try to hit the similarly sized differentials first before moving
on so we can use as many common components as possible)

Jeff

The F-150 4X4 Trucks have a *******ized 8.8 IFS front differential.

I have a friend who put Detroits Elec-trac in his D44 rear. He loves it so far. The true-trac is very nice both on road and off road, and if that won't get you through, just lock it up. however, I guess they are recalling quite a few.

I'm also interested in this because I plan to put the Elec-trac in my D44 front end, and if Detroit makes one for the 8.8 I'll eventually upgrade from the powertrax to that. Otherwise I'll go with the Eaton.

It isn't that *******ized is it? as far as I'm aware it uses reverse cut 8.8 gears, and the standard 8.8 carrier.
It is also used as the front diff of 4x4 Expeditions.

jefe..
the guys at tractech assured that the electrac for 8.8 would be out this spring. i personally like it better since it is LS/locker instead of open/locker.

Isn't the Eaton a L/S / Locker also?

i'm pretty sure its an open to locker. i just checked their website and didn't see it there but i know i read it that way somewhere. that's the main reason i wanted the electrac instead.

i think the e locker comes in 2 different versions. one thats LS to locked and another one thats open to locked.

I thought there was another thread on this board where people were trash talking the original TracTech limited slip and that it's crazy to design an electric one off of a bad design in the first place.
