every piece of info iv'e read says you can cam up a mass air 5.0. yet you can't cam up a eec-v 5.0 even though it's a mass air engine. if a mass air pcm "learns" its parameters from the maf...what is the exact reason eec-v won't work with mild-wild cam?seems to me timing is perfect with mag trigger.what blows the eec-v's parameters? low overlap? educate me please...i need to know as i'm almost done building job 2 5.0 trac from 98 mass air exploder, and want to wake up sleeping intake/heads.
 






I could be a bit off here, but I am pretty sure that no learning happens at wot (open loop). This means the factory tune would not change a thing from about 3/4 to full throttle from when your motor was in factory state.

As for the rest, you might have idle issues that need to be tuned out. While your doing all that, why wouldn't you adjust a/f so the fuel trims are centered with the least learning possible required while in closed loop?

That's correct. Adaptive learning and fuel trims are applied during closed loop but in open loop the PCM utilizes the entries in the Base Fuel Table to set the AFR. Open loop occurs when the TPS position exceeds the preset value for open loop and from engine start until the O2 sensors have had time to heat up.

Increasing head airflow should not require changing anything unless the MAF sensor gets pegged (reaches its max voltage output). Changing to a higher flow MAF sensor will impact AFR unless the MAF transfer function is changed in the tune to match the sensor. It will also impact the PCM computed load which alters the spark advance.

Changing to a more aggressive camshaft normally reduces low engine speed torque and ignition timing may need to be altered to compensate for the loss of torque. Also the idle speed may need to be increased.

Modifying performance with modern engines is as much or more electronics as mechanics.
