My 2000 Explorer 4.0 OHV started running rough on the way home today. When I got home, I ran the codes and got P1405, P0305, P0171 and P0174. The lean codes have been there for a while and never seemed to cause a problem. The other two were new. I looked under the hood, and I found a burned hose leading to the EGR pressure differential sensor; the port connected to that hose was also burnt and a burned wire on the 5 spark plug.

The fix seems obvious, replace all the burned parts, but is the cause a failed hose or did something else cause it to fail? Could the lean condition cause this?

Thanks in advance.

Another thought, could a stuck EGR valve cause the hose to melt? Would there be a different code if that were the case?

I had something like this happen on my 1994 Limited. It was the DPFE sensor.

I replaced the DPFE and the burned hoses and all seems to be well. The hoses were pretty rotten, the bigger one had burned through in several places, and the small one tore when I tried to take it off. It seems to run much better and the check engine light hasn't come back on. I think were good! Thanks for the help.
